AFFI to Assume Management of Environmental
Engineering Conference
McLean, VA – In an effort to continue to provide meaningful
educational opportunities for its members and the entire food
industry, the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) will assume
management of the Environmental Engineering in the Food
Processing Industry Conference in 2003. The Conference addresses
environmental concerns currently facing the food processing
industry. In its new role, AFFI will handle marketing,
registration, and housing for the Conference, which previously
was managed by the United Engineering Foundation, Inc. The next
Environmental Engineering Conference is scheduled to be held
March 17-20, 2003, in Tampa, Florida.
“The Environmental Engineering Conference is a great addition to
AFFI’s already impressive portfolio of timely and informative
events. Because AFFI is the founder and chairing organization of
the Food Industry Environmental Council (FIEC), who will sponsor
the conference, managing this conference proves a natural fit
for the Institute. We will work closely with FIEC members to
further enhance this important industry event,” said Leslie G.
Sarasin, AFFI’s president and chief executive officer.
FIEC is a coalition of more than 50 food processors and food
trade associations that together represent more than 15,000
facilities across the nation, contributes hundreds of billions
of dollars in sales to the economy and employs approximately 1.5
million people.
The Environmental Engineering Conference brings together
environmental and energy managers from large and small food and
beverage companies with representatives from academia,
government, food industry trade associations, the legal
profession, equipment suppliers, and environmental consultants.
The Conference includes discussion of emerging and timely issues
by experienced professionals involved with environmental
compliance and control technologies on a daily basis.
For more than 30 years, the conference has allowed participants
to observe the development and maturation of the environmental
practice, as well as application of the environmental sciences
over a number of years.
“As the industry faces new challenges with changing water
regulations and sustainable development concepts, those involved
in the environmental arena stand to benefit greatly from the
educational opportunities associated with this Conference,” said
Robert Garfield, AFFI’s senior vice president of public policy.
In addition to printed marketing pieces, AFFI will create a
section for the Food Industry Environmental Council on its
website, http://www.AFFI.com, which will contain promotional
materials and up-to-date information on the Conference.
