American Frozen Food Institute Encourages Senate Consideration of Food Safety Legislation
McLean, VA – American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) President and CEO Kraig R. Naasz issued the following statement today in anticipation of tomorrow’s meeting of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions regarding legislation to modernize America’s food safety system.
“AFFI members are committed to food safety, which is their highest priority. While much is being done to ensure the safety of food, safeguards must be continually updated.
“AFFI supports efforts to modernize the nation’s food safety laws and regulations. We worked extensively with the Senate sponsors of FDA Food Safety Modernization Act and believe their bill offers a reasonable, common sense approach to enhancing food safety and consumer confidence in America’s food supply.
“We have long supported and worked for a stronger U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Many provisions in the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act give the agency the authority and funding it needs. AFFI supports ensuring that FDA’s limited resources remain focused and provide maximum effective food safety benefits.
“AFFI looks forward to working with members of the Senate to ensure the most efficient and effective food safety legislation is enacted into law.”
